The official installation thread can be found here.

If you want to be able go back and forth between bnet and Hell Unleashed, then you need to copy the contents of your Diablo 2 folder (C:\Program Files\Diablo 2) into a new folder. This way you can have bnet D2 in your Diablo 2 Folder and Hell Unleashed in the new folder. I called the new folder "Hell Unleashed" and I assume you'll do the same.

1) Delete the folder called "Data" in the Hell Unleashed folder.

2) Download this file: www.fileplanet.com . . .

3) Extract all the files to the Hell Unleashed folder. Replace all files by saying "yes to all."

4) There will be a .rar file called Diablo 2 LoD 1.10. Extract all those files into the Hell Unleashed folder to revert your version to 1.10 (HU doesn't work with 1.11 which is the current bnet version). Again, say "yes to all" to replace all files.

5) Run the file called D2ModSetup.

6) Double click the .bat file named "Hell Unleashed" to start playing. You need to launch from this file, not from the file called "Diablo 2."

7) Connect tot he "Arymith Network" realm, create an account, and you should be good to go.

ok so my acc is Gheki umm but one problem. if i try to join a game i get an error and the game closes

That was happening to me, too. Did you revert to 1.10? Does it say 1.10 on the main D2 menu screen?

I had actually downloaded and installed 1.16, but I the link I gave was to 1.2, which is the correct version. Once I installed 1.2, I was able to join games.

Did you run D2ModSetup?

Are you launching from the Hell Unleashed.bat file rather than the Diablo 2.exe file? It should launch two command windows before the game launches- one shows some commands and disappears, one lingers with a constant "cannot connect to server" message.

I don't think I had one until after I installed 1.16, which was the incorrect version. I believe just people upgrading to 1.2 had to delete the Data folder.

I can think of two things to do.

1) Completely uninstall D2 and do a fresh install. Without connecting to b.net, apply the 1.10 upgrade, then apply the HU 1.2 upgrade. If you want access to bnet, too, then make two folders as I mentioned.

2) Regiister for the HU forums and ask for help in Tech Support (read the stickies, but I pretty much covered everything there). I was having the same problem at first, but after doing what I told you, I don't know why it isn't working for you (I had the wrong version).

Maybe my original instructions were in the wrong order? Specifically the application of 1.10 and the application of HU 1.2. This is just a shot in the dark, but maybe try this: delete the Hell Unleashed folder (the copy of your D2 folder), re-copy your Diablo 2 folder, apply the 1.10 patch to the copy, then extract all the HU 1.2 files to the copy. Again, be sure to run D2ModSetup and launch from Hell Unleashed.bat.

Do you see the command windows when you launch? And does one repeatedly say "cannot connect to server?"

yea i get teh double proxy and the cannot connect to server jibberish, i also am curious for whenever i do click on the d2 mod thing. did it open a proxy window for you and ask you to install it? and literally a second afterwards it just said it finished installing and nothing else happened? i dunno, but ill dick around with it later. this kind of silly stuff always rubs me the wrong way >

Yes- running d2modsetup seems like it does nothing. But it apparently does. Run it again and it asks you to uninstall the mod. Run it again and it asks you to install the mod. It's weird, just make sure that you ran it and installed the mod.

I wonder if you need the 1.16 version AND the 1.2 version? That's what I did- applied bnet 1.10, applied 1.16, couldn't join games and realized there was a 1.2 beta. Once I applied that, I was fine. Perhaps 1.2 beta isn't everything you need?

Get 1.16 here (scroll down a little): arimyth.planetdiablo.gamespy.com . . .

Then start over- copy folder, apply bnet 1.10, apply 1.16, delete Data folder, then apply 1.12. Try that.

Yeah, 1.2 beta took forever to download. Follow the instructions in the original post, then if you have problems joining games, we'll do what gheki had to do and install 1.16 version THEN 1.2 beta.
